Gratitude

Sleep Over, Marble Jars, and Weekend

Today I am grateful for:

1. Sleep Overs. One of my joys as a mom is welcoming the friends of my kids. When we lived in Tyler, we lived across the street from the elementary school. For many years we had a revolving door of kids. I loved to make cookies, smoothies, pizzas, and other tantelizing goodies. (Although, once Bierrocks happened to be on our menu… the cabbage and homemade bread did not go over as well as I had hoped. Hey, I am a firm believer that we can always get out the PB & J.)

Since we have moved to Houston, having other kids in our home is a rare and special occasion. I get pretty excited. I told my sister about my son’s sleep over tonight, and she gave me some good advice: “If you start getting too excited, excuse yourself and go upstairs!” I do not want to embarrass my sweet son. Grateful and having fun!

2. Best friends. I got to talk to one of my “marble jar” friends. She and I raised our kids together since they were practically crawling. It is a joy to connect and share all that is going on with our families. Just thinking about her makes my heart smile. (Marble Jar metaphor comes from the work of Brené Brown’s book Daring Greatly).

3. Weekend. I am still trying to figure out how to manage work, homemaking, one child in middle school, and one in high school. I love every bit of it (seriously), but cannot figure out how to do everything without being exhausted by Wednesday night. I still have some glitches to work through. When I get tired, I get irritable. Gratitude-practice has helped, but I still have so far to go. But… I am grateful that I am enough… today… right now. No perfect here!

What are you thankful for today?
