On Mother’s Day I decided that my favorite thing is being a mother. I love the many skills this job entails. Over the course of the past 15 years I have practiced:
- Kissing hurt knees
- Changing diapers
- Teaching math and reading
- Catching numerous balls
- Running in a zig-zag pattern on the playground (after escaping toddler)
- Blowing bubbles
- Making cookies for multiple kids (above and beyond my own)
- Praying
- Wiping tears
- Taxi driving kids to school, sports, music events, and youth group ventures
- Watching the stars
- Singing goofy songs
- Telling fart jokes
- Rocking a sick child all day long
- Being stern with homework
- Being gentle with fears
- Perpetual cruise director all summer long (“What are we doing today, Mom?”)
- Swim coach
- Cooking
- Cleaning (in order to bless my family with a warm, welcoming space)
- Tutoring
- PTO food prep volunteer
- Receiving beautiful impromptu picked flowers
- Movie nights with plenty of pizza and root beer
- Video gaming
- Listening
- Sharing my clothes and shoes
- Reading bedtime stories
- Comforting unmet expectations
- Cheerleading
- and so much more…
I am grateful today for the gift of sharing this life with my husband and children. I want to savor every moment because I know this time passes fast. Thank you, God, for the blessing of being a mother.
Awwww. So sweet and so true. And I am grateful and glad for you that you felt like posting today. I have widgets in my future, too. (wink!)
